Marion Cotillard -- Why We Hate the French

Oscar bitch Marion Cotillard must think Americans don't know French so she can pretend she didn't say what she said. Well, she said it.

Her Paris-based lawyer, Vincent Toledano, tried spinning his client's comment about 9/11, claiming she was taken out of context.

But we've looked at the original transcript and she did indeed say that Americans destroyed the Twin Towers themselves because they wanted it rebuilt and blowing it up was cheaper than renovation.

Marion -- foie gras you.

UPDATE: Cotillard's rep has released the following statement to TMZ: "On February 16, 2007, I appeared on a late night French television program,'Paris Dernière.' In the last 48 hours, my statements on that program have been taken completely out of context and been crafted into a story that hasn o merit. The conversation on the talk show included a dialogue about
conspiracy theories. At no point did I intend to contest the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001, one of the most tragic days in all of history. Nonetheless, I sincerely regret if my comments offended or hurt anyone."

376. I can understand why a lot of people are upset with her, but for Hollywood insiders to talk about how they wouldn't have given her the award if they had been aware of the comments is beyond crazy, it smacks of hypocrisy. Here they are, making a big deal out of some comments she made off the cuff, more or less, in the course of an interview in France. Yet, they seem to have no problem with giving an award to Michael Moore, based on a damn movie where he promotes vigorously the exact same conspiracy theory for which Cotillard is now being denounced.

I'll go see Cotillard's movies. I seem to have the ability to separate the person from the body of work, to which their stated personal views are irrelevant to me. Of course, the Academy could, if they really want to stand on principle, denounce some of their own past actions, in the form of awards to Moore, to Sean Penn, etc. I won't hold my breath though.

377. I hade the same responce to Marion"s coments about 911 as I did to the soldier throwing the dog off the cliff, how could anyone be so cold and heartless.

378. "I spent most of one summer in France. I was not impressed with the French people. I found most of them arrogant and needing to take more baths. The food wasn't that great, either. The French restaurants in America are much better than the restaurants in France. Silly and dumb actors should just stick to their acting and not comment on things they know nothing about.

You probably never set foot outside your trailer. I'm sure any french person who met you probably didn't get the best impressions of Americans either. Get an IQ.

379. "Cherie and the other french people on here.

I find it ironic that although you hate America and the people, you are on an American website reading about American celebrities. Shouldn't you be reading a French website and spending your time studying your own people???

With that said, you do not know me.....I am an American. What have I done to you? Have I personally done anything to you that would require such hatred towards me? I am a loving, kind hearted mother that lives in California. I treat people with the deepest respect and I treat people how I would like to be treated. I help elderly people with their groceries, I take meals to a neighbor weekly because she is old and deserves my help and respect. I have 3 children that are all gifted in school. I live in this country, but I don't agree with everything (most) of what our government does. With all of that said, I have never done ANYTHING to make a french person dislike me. For that matter, I have never personally done anything to anyone from another country that would require such resentment.

Why hate us so much? We are the same as you...human beings trying to live a life. This actress is entitled to her opinion. We may not agree with it, but it's her opinion. I have traveled the world, and although I am an American I was raised in Prague. There is not really so much about France or Europe that is different from the United States. I have lived in many places, and in general the people are the same....kind, considerate, hard working, and trying to make the most of their small existence in this world.

Do not judge me just because I was "born" on American soil. That would be the very first step in overcoming the differences between nations. You think you have more culture than me? why? You think you are better than me? why? You think you are any different than me? You're not. There are many things in America that you have not witnessed, or experienced. Please don't place your judgements on the innocent people of America because you do not understand. I do have culture, I speak 4 languages fluently, I have seen the entire world and met many different people. France is beautiful, America is beautiful....people are the same, basically. France has crooks, theives, loving teachers, priests, mothers, children just like we do here.

Take a step back and look at the big picture....we're all human and we can't help what our government does.

By the way....the statue of liberty is really really...REALLY ugly.

Booboo, I'm curious, have you bothered to read all the anti-french vile on this forum? Please don't lecture the french on "hating anyone". The vast majority of hate is coming from ignorant Americans. Please tell, what did you think of the people degrading the french on this forum? Do you have a problem with that, or is it only when people attack Americans? I was hoping with the election of Sarkozy, Americans would realize that not all of them are hell bent on being anti-american, but it seems that they want to hold on to their prejudices to much. What she said was stupid, assuming if she actually thinks that. I say assume, because now she is claiming what she said was taken out of context. The fact of the matter is, the only reason TMZ can post garbage like "Why we hate the french", is because there are not enough french people in the states to protest this bigotry. They have no protection groups to stand up for them, like the black and jewish people have, so they are fair game. We can't insult the muslims, so I guess we have to pick on the french. I use to think this site had a bit more commone sense, but I was wrong. This will most likely get deleted because I now know what kind of trash website this is, but I don't give a damn. And to the rest of you who hate the french, remember this, if it wasn't for the french you would be a colony today bowing to the Queen and sipping tea speaking with a British accent. You hate to admit this, thats why you hate the french so much. Because it it wasn't for the "surrender monkies" you would have had your butts handed over to you. You NEVER were grateful for what the french did for you in your fight for independance and you never will. All you anti-french bigots can go to hell.

382. I m french ... shame on me
One year ago , we have seen on internet a lot of theories about 9/11: GOVERNEMENT conspiracy etc... so do you think having questions means you re an idiot ?
I think Marion cottillard didn't forget the innocents of 9/11 she has just an opinion about this terrible
page of history, we can't say she is stupide or crasy . I thought United States was an open mind country ... freedom ... BUT I WAS WRONG , I think that the problemis just because she's french...
Even i m FRENCH ,this day was a tragedie and i was Shoked for the rest of my life. Because Innocents lose their lives.
Marion cottilard is a good actress that's why she had an oscar , it's not a political oscar .
Despate anti french ideas,narrow-minded... i met a lot of nice people when i was in us , i keep this feeling.

383. Leesa -- Marion Cotillard is 32 NOW; she would have been 29 or 30 when the shooting was started for LA VIE EN ROSE, which took almost a year to make. The film came out in summer 2007. In addition, while Piaf died at 47, she looked 80, due to several auto accidents, severe arthritis, and very hard living (drinking since childhood, when she was living on the streets of Paris, plus use of morphine due to the continued pain from her auto accidents). So it would seem that you are not known for "making very smart public comments" either. And if I were you, I woldn't worry about Mlle. Cotillard getting another job: she has three major pictures lined up already, and her charm, intelligence, and graciousness made her many new friends in Hollywood during the Oscars. Moreover, she is amazingly gifted, and everyone in the film business here and in Europe wants to work with the best, the most talented people. She'll survive the smear campaign conducted against her, and go on to more terrific work, and a fine life.

384. I'm French, I live in North America for many years and I have a great opinion of American people.
Please do not say the French are all stupid. Do you really know French people? No! You just know some celebrities and unfortunately the French celebrities left school early, are communist and have a very big opinion of themselves. They live in their own world and they don't know anything about America. Marion Cottillard is a j@e.r.k, listen her "Oscar's speech" and you will see that she cannot speak english. This is very difficult to know and understand a culture when you are not able to speak with people. The most important part of the french journalists always criticize America and unfortunately celebrities who cannot have their own opinion due their leak of culture and education believe what they hear.

386. She deserves to be commended. It is obvious there is more than meets the eye where 9/11 is concerned. Those who deny it, have not done their research. There is no way steel melts from jet fuel (kerosene). Wake up people. How could 3 (three) steel buildings collapse from fire? It would be the first, and last time this has ever happened. 9/11 was an inside job.

387. 9/11 one of the worst things in all of history? How about the GENOCIDE against Native Americans by the settlers? Hm? What about Pompei and so on? if a sky scraper was hit by a plane flown by terrorists in any other part of the world I doubt any of you would care as much.
